androgynosaurus:

Honestly be pretentious as fuck about the stuff you create. Do a press release for your fanfic updates. Do a Q&A about your webcomic. Make fake merch designs for your OCs. Commission “official” book covers. Very few of us will ever get to a stage where something we’ve created Makes It Big but even if you have an audience of 5 people plus a shoelace fucking indulge yourself and pretend!! It’s the only way to live!!

Ao3's current drive was for 50,000$ and they received over 200,000$ last I checked. You once said that for really big projects or just a good coder they'll need a budget increase.

Wouldn't it be time to aim higher than 50,000$? I don't know what the internal goals are for ao3 though.

Most fundraising starts with a basic goal and then moves up from there. I was never involved with that aspect of OTW and haven’t been involved with any aspect since 2014, but my impression is that they usually set the goal at a very basic keeping-the-lights-on level.

The budget is set at running at a loss of $130k and taking that money out of reserves. We don’t have employees yet, we know money is tight for everyone.

The right ball park for a single coder is about $250K a year. You would need more than a single coder as the rest of the org could not keep up….
